Year 2 - Home Learning

Good Afternoon Year 2,

I hope you have been enjoying the lovely sunshine during this half-term holiday. We have been blessed with the lovely weather we have had, which brings a smile to my face during these uncertain times. As well as completing my work, I have been trying to get out on my bike, getting some miles in and have seen some of you whilst I was out! I went to the Humber Bridge last weekend and had to be careful not to get blown off! I have seen a lot of people out walking, running and cycling this week, which is great to see, as it not only keeps our bodies active, it also keeps our mind happy.

It always brightens my day to see you enjoying your home learning, so remember if you want to send me any pictures of the learning you have been completing, email me on year2@stpeter.doncaster.sch.uk. I have attached next week’s home learning activities below. If you have any queries about this, please don’t hesitate to contact me by email.

Take care,
Mr Ward.

I hope you are all continuing to keep yourselves safe and well. The poem above reminds us that we are never alone, even when it might feel like we are. I heard it earlier in the week and thought it was very poignant, especially at this uncertain time.  The weather looks lovely for next week, so make sure you take some time to enjoy yourselves and relax with your families.

As this would have been half-term, I am not setting the usual amount of work to complete. Instead, I have included some fun activities you may wish to complete.

Remember to enjoy this time with your families and take care of yourselves!

Stay safe Year 2,
Mr Ward

Year 2's Home Learning

Good Afternoon Year 2,

I hope you are keeping yourselves safe and are enjoying this time at home with your families. Although, it is upsetting that we are not in school together enjoying our learning, we need to make the most out of this situation by enjoying this time with our loved ones. While the weather has been cooler this week, it is supposed to be brightening up, so hopefully we can spend some time in our gardens, enjoying the sunshine.

Remember if you want to send me any pictures of the home learning you have been completing, email me on year2@stpeter.doncaster.sch.uk. I have attached next week’s home learning activities below. If you have any queries about this, please don’t hesitate to contact me by email.

RE- During this time of the year, we would be looking at the sacrament of reconciliation. The friends of Jesus asked him about forgiving people who had hurt them.  Peter thought it would be good to forgive them seven times and that would be quite hard to do.  Peter was surprised when Jesus told him that you have to keep on forgiving, but he did say that the person who had done wrong should say sorry and really mean it.

Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘If my friend keeps hurting me, how many times do I have to forgive him/her? Seven times?

‘No, not seven times,’ answered Jesus, ‘but seventy times seven.’

Based on Matthew 18: 21-22.

Draw around your hands and write as many words as you can think of related to friendship and forgiveness.

A lovely video of the Easter Story by Alice Giannini

Still image for this video

Happy Easter Everyone!

Picture 1

I hope you are all continuing to keep yourselves safe and well. It feels very strange that this is the end of term and that it is a Bank Holiday weekend. I would normally be looking forward to going to the coast at some point soon, but I’m sure I’ll have time for that when it is safe to do so.

As this would have been our Easter holidays, I am not setting the usual amount of work to complete. Instead, I have included some suggestive activities you may wish to complete.

Remember to enjoy this time with your families and take care of yourselves!

Stay safe Year 2,
Mr Ward.

WritingWith it being the run up to Easter, I thought it would be nice to link our writing and                 RE together this week. Therefore, for writing this week, can you retell the Easter                   Story in your own words. I have attached a powerpoint to help remind you of the                       sequence in which it happens. Remember this can be completed over the week, so on                one day you can read and remind yourself of the story; on another day you could                        plan it by drawing pictures of what happens; and then on another day, you could write                your own version of the story.

Maths- For Maths this week we will continue on our fractions unit. I have attached the work                below. If you go to https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/ there are                      videos and answers for the work provided.

Art/DT- Again, with it being the run up to Easter, can you design your own cross for                              Jesus? Afterwards, you can either decorate or make your cross? Remember you can                send me your designs if you would like and will try and post them on the webpage.

Good Afternoon Year 2,

I hope you are all keeping yourselves safe and well! It feels very different planning via the webpage, rather than planning to be in front of you all tomorrow morning, but these are the current circumstances we are in at the minute and we have to try and make the best out of it. I do wish I were seeing all of your smiling faces tomorrow, rather than looking at my laptop screen.

I have uploaded next weeks work, I hope it all makes sense. Remember if you do have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me via email at year2@stpeter.doncaster.sch.uk

Finally don't forget I have created an account for everyone to access Numbots and Times tables rockstars (an online maths programme) so you can test out your maths knowledge. If you want to find out your login details just email me and I will send them to you.

Phonics

Please continue to practise the phase 5 sounds, which are in the powerpoint below.
Can you think of any words which include these sounds? Can you think of any sentences, which include these words?

Record these in your home learning books.

As well as recapping the phase 5 sounds, please use the website below, which includes the spelling rules taught in phase 6 of the phonics programme. Take your time to go through each rule, completing the games as well as the 'practise' and 'test' for each rule.

Reading

Please continue with your reading at home and discuss what you have read with your parent/carer. There is an example of a book review below, which you can use to review the book you have read.

Maths

Please enjoy these maths games to recap our previous learning. A popular game on the topmarks webpage is hit the button, where children enjoy testing themselves on the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
