Computer Gaming

Like social media, computer gaming can be both positive and negative for children.

Young Minds has a useful webpage for parents concerned about the mental health aspects of computer games, while the BBC has a helpful guide to the industry, and what the regulations mean for parents.

The BBC also suggests gaming advice for parents:

  • Get to know the games you child plays to get a sense of if they are appropriate and safe.
  • Ask them to show you or play with them rather than only researching online
  • Many games use microtransactions - make sure you set spending restrictions
  • Use the game's setting to restrict who they can consent with online
  • Set clear time boundaries - they get tired or furstrated, taking a break may be for the best.
